Further in the south is Tianmen Mountain which is also a "must visit" place and not for the faint-hearted or those who are afraid of heights. Please take note that there will be a high speed rail transportation to Zhangjiajie from all cities in the future and currently the road from Zhangjiajie City to Wulingyuan is under construction and will be completed in 2020. So all tourists who need to go to Wulingyuan from Zhangjiajie City will have to go to a much longer road as follow: Zhangjiajie -- Yanghe --Wulingyuan, where the journey could take about 1.5 hrs to 2 hrs depending on traffic condiiton. In addition to that, transportation fee to Tianmen Mountain will be much higher if you stay at Wulingyuan on your first night in your tour. Not to mention, you will be spending approxiamately 3-4 hours daily (through and flows) in your journey traveling from your hotel in Wulingyuan to Tianmen Mountain and return trip.

So our advice is better to stay at a hotel in Zhangjiajie City for your first night stay upon arrival and stay the remaining days at Wulingyuan. This is because all other attractions in Zhangjiajie beside Tianmen Mountain are located near Wulingyuan and your tour to Tianmen Mountain will be the first tour after you have arrived.
